Abstract:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>The exercise of coastal control in R\u016bm Seljuk territory in the XIIIth<\/sup>\u00a0century, on both Mediterranean-White and Black Sea coastlines is almost entirely unaddressed in the modern literature, although the title of the responsible official, when not directly administered by the Sult\u0101n, is recorded,\u00a0emir-i sevahil<\/em>, Emir of the Coastlines, and after 1250,\u00a0malik al-sawahil<\/em>, Ruler of the Coastlines.<\/p>\n

The mountainous, indented S.W. coastline of the Sultanate by 1226 extended for more than 600 km, Dalaman to near Silifke, yet rapid communications were essential to the exercise of effective state control. How did timely information reach the sult\u0101n in his peregrinations and campaigns \u2013 news of the passage of a Crusader or pirate fleet, an uprising, or the arrival of envoys?<\/p>\n

This brief article outlines the communication systems that would have been employed, relates them to \u201cThe Second Sulaym\u0101n<\/em>\u201d, the\u00a0laqub<\/em>\u00a0awarded to R\u016bm Seljuk Sultans from 1205 to 1247, and suggests the\u00a0man\u0101r<\/em>\u00a0tower immediately to the west of \u015ear\u00e2b-sal\u00e2r han, 15 km west of Alanya was a station in this network, signals from this structure being clearly visible from the castle of \u2018Ala\u2019iyya-Alanya lying to its East.<\/p>\n

1226 y\u0131l\u0131na kadar Sultanl\u0131\u011f\u0131n da\u011fl\u0131k ve girintili-\u00e7\u0131k\u0131nt\u0131l\u0131 G\u00fcney Bat\u0131 sahili, 600 km\u2019den daha fazla uzundu. Dalaman\u2019dan Silifke yak\u0131nlar\u0131na kadar. Bununla birlikte etkili bir devlet kontrol\u00fc i\u00e7in h\u0131zl\u0131 haberle\u015fme zaruriydi. Ha\u00e7l\u0131lar\u0131n veya korsan filolar\u0131n\u0131n ge\u00e7i\u015fi, bir ayaklanma veya bir el\u00e7inin geli\u015fi nas\u0131l oluyordu da anl\u0131k bir bilgi olarak gezide veya seferde olan Sultana ula\u015ft\u0131r\u0131l\u0131yordu?<\/p>\n

Bu k\u0131sa makale, kullan\u0131lm\u0131\u015f olan haberle\u015fme sistemini \u00f6zetlemektedir ve 1205 tarihinden 1247 tarihine kadarki Rum Sel\u00e7uk Sultanlar\u0131na\u00a0\u0130kinci S\u00fcleyman lakab\u0131 <\/em>verilmi\u015ftir; bu durum da \u015earab-salar Han\u2019\u0131n hemen bat\u0131s\u0131nda, Alanya\u2019n\u0131n 15 km bat\u0131s\u0131ndaki\u00a0manar\u00a0<\/em>kulesinin bu a\u011f\u0131n bir istasyonu oldu\u011funu \u00f6n g\u00f6rmektedir. Bu yap\u0131dan g\u00f6nderilen i\u015faretler, \u2018Ala\u2019iyya-Alanya\u2019n\u0131n do\u011fusunda uzanan kaleden net bir \u015fekilde g\u00f6r\u00fclebiliyordu.<\/p>\n
