K\u0131y\u0131 hatt\u0131na yak\u0131n olan adan\u0131n bir o kadar da ana\u00adkaradan izole olmas\u0131 ve \u00fczerinde bulunan tatl\u0131 su kayna\u011f\u0131 buray\u0131 uygun bir ya\u015fam alan\u0131 haline getirmi\u015ftir. B\u00f6l\u00adge antik yazarlar taraf\u0131ndan s\u0131k olarak ele al\u0131nm\u0131\u015f olsa da, adan\u0131n ismi Do\u011fu Roma\u2019n\u0131n \u00e7\u00f6k\u00fc\u015f\u00fc ile birlikte (1453) Ed\u00adremit Kad\u0131k\u00f6y’den gelen iki ke\u015fi\u015fin ada \u00fczerinde ilk kiliseyi in\u015fa etmeleriyle duyulmaya ba\u015flanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Buradaki yerle\u015fimin ba\u015flang\u0131c\u0131 ile birlikte ula\u015f\u0131m i\u00e7in muhtemelen r\u0131ht\u0131m, iskele vb. bir yap\u0131ya ihtiya\u00e7 duyul\u00admu\u015ftur. Kuzeyde yer alan modern iskelenin alt\u0131nda, manast\u0131r yap\u0131s\u0131 ile \u00e7a\u011fda\u015f ve b\u00f6lgedeki yo\u011funlu\u011fu kar\u015f\u0131\u00adlaya\u00adbilecek b\u00fcy\u00fckl\u00fckteki ta\u015f r\u0131ht\u0131m alan\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmam\u0131z kapsam\u0131nda incelenmi\u015ftir. Bug\u00fcne kadar ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmam\u0131\u015f olan antik ta\u015f r\u0131ht\u0131m\u0131n, kara ve sualt\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 ile elde edilen verileri, ada \u00fczerindeki manast\u0131r ile ba\u011flant\u0131s\u0131 ve \u00e7evredeki r\u0131ht\u0131m alanlar\u0131 ile benzerlikleri de\u011ferlendirilmi\u015f, bu ba\u011flamda antik ta\u015f r\u0131ht\u0131m\u0131n in\u015fas\u0131ndan g\u00fcn\u00fc\u00adm\u00fcze kadar ge\u00e7irdi\u011fi tarihsel s\u00fcre\u00e7 ortaya konulmak istenmi\u015ftir. Abstract: <\/strong><\/span>Located by the coastline in the district of Bal\u0131kesir, Ayval\u0131k, Tavuk Adas\u0131 has a Monastery dedicated to John the Baptist, holy for Christians. Both because the island is close to the coastline but\u00a0 it is isolated from the mainland and is a place with\u00a0 freshwater sources it was a place suitable for human habitation. Alt\u00adhough the region is frequently discussed by ancient writers, the island’s name started to be recorded when the first church on the island, constructed by two monks\u00a0 from Edremit Kadikoy, with the the collapse of Byzantium (1453). Probably, it was required s structure such as a dock, pier etc. To service the transporta\u00adtion needs of the early settlement here. The stone dock area examined as part of our work, which is located under the north of the modern port is contemporary with the monastery, was large enough to service the requirements of the region.. This ancient stone dock which has not been studied to date, was researched both from the land and through underwater studies and its function was assessed in connection with the monastery on the island and its similarities with other dock areas in the region. This was put into historical context in respect to the construction of the ancient stone dock. The dock area has been exposed to envi\u00adron\u00admental damage and erosion through being submerged, from tectonic activity and the changes to the area can be followed through photographs from the late 19th century onwards.
