Abstract:<\/strong> This article is of three parts. The first part provides a brief account of the past 50 years of publications concerning the figures depicted on the 8-pointed tiles in the tile-work revetments of Seljuk palaces and related structures, in which no meaningful explantion has been offered as to the reason for the use of the four figural types employed in these depictions. The use of these four figural types was to state in the visual language of design that the Seljuk ruler was to be understood as being \u201cThe Second Sulaym\u0101n,\u201d \u201cThe Sulaym\u0101n of the Age\u201d. Part II, in brief, addresses the matter of titulature and of its sources, both Caliphal through investiture, and those derived from the Qur\u2019an, and works such as the various Qi\u1e63a\u1e63 al-Anbiy\u0101,\u2019<\/em> those literary sources that found expression in the titles of rulers and in the representation of these titles in both script and in visual forms (design) at that time. Part III addresses the matter of the so-called \u201chybrid\u201d or \u201cmythical creatures\u201d depicted on this tilework, that is, the pictorial representations of some of the members of one of the armies under Sulaym\u0101n\u2019s command – the jinn – the references made to them, the record of their appearance in the available sources and the record of their presence in the related literature, and it concludes with examples of the depiction of them on these 13th<\/sup> c. Seljuk tile-work revetments, depictions that differ markedly from their later representation in Ilkhanid, Timurid and Ottoman art.<\/p>\n

Yani S\u00fcleyman\u2019n\u0131n komutas\u0131 alt\u0131ndaki ordulardan birinin baz\u0131 \u00fcyelerinin resimli tasvirine, -cinler- \u00fczerine yap\u0131lan referanslara, mevcut kaynaklardaki g\u00f6r\u00fcn\u00fc\u015fle\u00adrine, ili\u015fkili literat\u00fcrdeki varl\u0131klar\u0131na ili\u015fkindir. Bu k\u0131s\u0131m XIII. y\u00fczy\u0131l Sel\u00e7uklu \u00e7ini kaplamalar\u0131 \u00fczerindeki tasvirlerine ve \u0130lhanl\u0131, Timur ve Osmanl\u0131 sanatlar\u0131nda kayda de\u011fer derecede farkl\u0131l\u0131k g\u00f6steren sonraki betimlemelerine ili\u015fkin \u00f6rneklerle sonlanmaktad\u0131r.<\/p>\n
