Abstract: <\/strong>Trade in antiquity has been regarded as a dynamic concept, just as it is in today’s world. That being said, defining the structure of long-distance trade in the Archaic period is highly problematic. However, a harbour settlement, Naukratis, has the potential to reveal the structure, organisation and interregional significance of trade activities and provide insight into their structure in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Archaic Period. The political and demographic structure of the city, which assumed the role of emporium from the Early Archaic Period onwards, was among the factors that shaped the trade organisation. Apart from the archaeological evidence, ancient sources also indicate that the Eastern Hellens played a leading role in trade, supported by the Egyptian Ruler Amasis. The information backed by literary and archaeological evidence demonstrates that social, political, and cultural factors determined the organisation of trade activities at Naukratis. This paper attempts to investigate the role of Naukratis within the Eastern Mediterranean trade world in the Archaic Period through literary and archaeological evidence.<\/p>\n

Antik\u00e7a\u011fda uzak mesafeler aras\u0131nda ger\u00e7ekle\u015fen ticaretin, Arkaik D\u00f6nem\u2019deki yap\u0131s\u0131n\u0131 tan\u0131mlamak olduk\u00e7a problemlidir. Bu do\u011frultuda bir liman yerle\u015fimi olan Naukratis, ticari faaliyetlerin yap\u0131s\u0131n\u0131, i\u015fleyi\u015fini ve b\u00f6lgeleraras\u0131 \u00f6nemini g\u00f6stermekte ve Do\u011fu Akdeniz\u2019de Arkaik D\u00f6nem ticari faaliyetlerin yap\u0131s\u0131 hakk\u0131nda fikir vermektedir. Erken Arkaik D\u00f6nem\u2019den itibaren emporio rol\u00fcn\u00fc \u00fcstlenen kentin, siyasi ve demografik yap\u0131s\u0131 da ticaretin i\u015fleyi\u015finde etkili olmu\u015ftur. Arkeolojik verilerin yan\u0131nda antik kaynaklar da Do\u011fu Hellen toplumunun ticarette \u00f6nc\u00fc rol oynad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ve bunun da M\u0131s\u0131r h\u00fck\u00fcmdar\u0131 Amasis taraf\u0131ndan desteklendi\u011fini g\u00f6stermektedir. T\u00fcm bu veriler Naukratis\u2019te ticari faaliyetlerin i\u015fleyi\u015finde sosyal, siyasal ve k\u00fclt\u00fcrel fakt\u00f6rlerin etkili oldu\u011funa i\u015faret etmektedir. Ara\u015ft\u0131rma kapsam\u0131nda Naukratis\u2019in Do\u011fu Akdeniz\u2019deki ticari konumu ve Arkaik D\u00f6nem ticaretinde \u00fcstlendi\u011fi rol arkeolojik veriler ve antik kaynaklar \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131nda yorumlanmaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n
