Öz: Olympos antik kentinde, 2009-2012 yılları arasında “Giriş Kompleksi” ve “Köprü Caddesi” olarak adlandı­rılmış alanlarda gerçekleştirilen kazılarda toplam 35 adet bronz Bizans sikkesi bulunmuştur. Sikkelerin 31’i Erken Bizans, 4’ü Orta Bizans Dönemine tarihlendirilmektedir. Ele geçen sikkelerden 11’i çok yıpranmış ve aşın­mış durumdadır ayrıca yazıtları da okunaksızdır. Aynı zamanda darphane ve imparatorları belirsizdir. An­cak özellikle arka yüzde belirgin olan birim işaretlerinden dolayı Erken Bizans Dönemi sikkeleri olduğu tespit edilmektedir. Olympos kazılarında ele geçen sikkelerin % 42’si Konstantinopolis darphanesine aittir. Başkent­teki darphane, kuruluşundan beri imparatorluğun bütün doğusuna sikke sağlayan ve bu bölgede en fazla üre­timde bulunan darphane olma özelliği taşıdığı için Olympos’ta yüksek temsil edilme oranı oldukça nor­maldir. Konstantinopolis darphanesini % 13 ile Antiokheia takip etmektedir. Erken Bizans Dönemi sikkelerinin %10’u Nikomedia ve % 3’ü (1 sikke) Kartaca darphanelerine aittir. Olympos kazılarında özellikle Balkanlara hizmet veren Thessalonika darphanesine ait sikke henüz ele geçmemiştir. Bunun ile birlikte, Kartaca gibi Batı darphanelerine ait 1 adet sikke bulunmaktadır. Olympos kazılarında bulunan sikkeler, Likya bölgesindeki diğer kentlerin kazı çalışmalarında ele geçmiş sikkeler ile istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırılmış. Arkeolojik kazıları gerçekleşmiş ya da devam eden kazılardan sadece Arykanda, Patara, Kaunos ve Dereağzı kazılarında bulun­muş Bizans sikke verileri karşılaştırmada kullanılmıştır. Likya bölgesinde, sınırlı sayıda kentlerin sikke bulun­tularını temsil eden örnekler üzerinden elde edilen veriye göre, kentler Erken ve Orta Bizans dönemindeki sik­ke sayısındaki artış ve Geç Bizans dönemindeki sikke sayısındaki düşüş ile paralellik göstermektedir.

Abstract: In the ancient city of Olympos, 35 bronze Byzantine coins were found in the excavations carried out around the “Entrance Complex” and “Bridge Street“. 31 of the coins are dated to be Early Byzantine Period while 4 of them to be Middle Byzantine Period. 11 of the coins found are fairly worn and eroded and the inscriptions on them are not legible. Also their mints and emperors are not uncertain. But due to the unit marks conspicuous especially on the reverses, they are determined to belong to Early Byzantine Period. 42 % of the coins found in the Olympos excavations belong to Constantinople mint. Because this mint in the capital is the one that provided coin for the entire Eastern block of the empire and that made the greatest production in the area, its high representation rate in Olympos is quite normal. Antiokheia follows right after Constantinople with 13 %. 10 % of the Early Byzantine Period coins come from Nikomedia and 3 % of them (1 coin) from Cartagena mint. The coin from the Thessalonica mint that provided service especially for the Balkan has yet to be found in the Olympos excavations. However, 1 coin belonging to the western mints, Cartagena, was found. The coins found in the Olympos excavations were statistically compared to the other coins found during excavations in the other cities around Lycia. Among the finished or ongoing archeological excavations only the data of the Byzantine coins found in the excavations of Arykanda, Patara, Kaunos and Dereağzı were used in the comparison. According to the data obtained from the samples representing the coin findings of cities limited in number in the Lycian area, the cities show paralellism with the increase in coin numbers in the Early and Middle Byzatine Period and the decrease in the Late Byzatine Period.

Öz: Kappadokia Bölgesi sınırları içinde bulunan Komana Tapınak Devleti tanrıça Ma’ya adanmış en önemli kült merkezidir. Antikçağ yazarlarından edinilen bilgiye göre tanrıçaya kültsel gücünden dolayı çok büyük bir saygı duyulmaktaydı. Strabon Pontos Komana’sındaki kült merkezinde tapınak köleleri ve tanrıçanın takip­çilerinin yaşadığını; köleler, kadın ve erkeklerden oluşan bu topluluğun sayısının 6000’den fazla olduğunu bildirmektedir. Günümüzde birçok araştırmacı tanrıça Ma’nın Anadolu ana tanrıçasının farklı bir versiyonu olduğunu ileri sürmektedir. Bunun asıl nedeni Ma kelimesinin birçok dilin doğal halinde “anne”, ya da “ana“ anlamında kullanılmasındandır. Fakat bir taraftan Antikçağ yazarlarının bildirdikleri, diğer taraftan ele geçen yazılı bilgiler ile görsel kaynaklardan Ma’nın Anadolu ana tanrıçası ile birçok farklı özelliklerinin olduğu ve köken olarak Hurri-Mitanni tanrıçası Šawuška’ya dayanmış olabileceği hipotezi de ileri sürülebilir.

Abstract: The temple state of Comana in Cappadocia was the most important religious center for the god­dess Ma in the ancient world. According to the reports of ancient authors, the proprietor of the temple state, due to her mighty power, was greeted with much respect throughout the ancient world. Strabo rela­tes how in his time the city population consisted entirely of worshippers and temple slaves, and their num­ber exceeded 6000. Today, most researchers assume that the goddess Ma was one expression of the Anato­lian Mother-Goddess. Her name resembling the babbling sound for “mother” in many languages. However, based upon the information provided in ancient accounts, it seems the goddess Ma might be better under­stood to be the representation of the Hurrian-Mitanni goddess Šawuška, rather more than the later repre­sentation of the Anatolian Mother-Goddess.

Öz: Günümüzde Balıkesir ili, Ayvalık ilçesi kıyı hattında yer alan Tavuk Adası üzerinde Hıristiyanlar için kutsal bir kişi olan Vaftizci Yahya’ya ait manastır bulunmaktadır. Kıyı hattına yakın olan adanın bir o kadar da ana­karadan izole olması ve üzerinde bulunan tatlı su kaynağı burayı uygun bir yaşam alanı haline getirmiştir. Böl­ge antik yazarlar tarafından sık olarak ele alınmış olsa da, adanın ismi Doğu Roma’nın çöküşü ile birlikte (1453) Ed­remit Kadıköy’den gelen iki keşişin ada üzerinde ilk kiliseyi inşa etmeleriyle duyulmaya başlanmıştır. Buradaki yerleşimin başlangıcı ile birlikte ulaşım için muhtemelen rıhtım, iskele vb. bir yapıya ihtiyaç duyul­muştur. Kuzeyde yer alan modern iskelenin altında, manastır yapısı ile çağdaş ve bölgedeki yoğunluğu karşı­laya­bilecek büyüklükteki taş rıhtım alanı çalışmamız kapsamında incelenmiştir. Bugüne kadar araştırılmamış olan antik taş rıhtımın, kara ve sualtı çalışmaları ile elde edilen verileri, ada üzerindeki manastır ile bağlantısı ve çevredeki rıhtım alanları ile benzerlikleri değerlendirilmiş, bu bağlamda antik taş rıhtımın inşasından günü­müze kadar geçirdiği tarihsel süreç ortaya konulmak istenmiştir. Rıhtım alanı maruz kaldığı çevresel ve tekto­nik etkilerle yıpranarak sualtında kalmıştır ve alanda görülen değişim 19. yüzyıl sonlarından itibaren fotoğraf­larla takip edilebilmektedir.

Abstract: Located by the coastline in the district of Balıkesir, Ayvalık, Tavuk Adası has a Monastery dedicated to John the Baptist, holy for Christians. Both because the island is close to the coastline but  it is isolated from the mainland and is a place with  freshwater sources it was a place suitable for human habitation. Alt­hough the region is frequently discussed by ancient writers, the island’s name started to be recorded when the first church on the island, constructed by two monks  from Edremit Kadikoy, with the the collapse of Byzantium (1453). Probably, it was required s structure such as a dock, pier etc. To service the transporta­tion needs of the early settlement here. The stone dock area examined as part of our work, which is located under the north of the modern port is contemporary with the monastery, was large enough to service the requirements of the region.. This ancient stone dock which has not been studied to date, was researched both from the land and through underwater studies and its function was assessed in connection with the monastery on the island and its similarities with other dock areas in the region. This was put into historical context in respect to the construction of the ancient stone dock. The dock area has been exposed to envi­ron­mental damage and erosion through being submerged, from tectonic activity and the changes to the area can be followed through photographs from the late 19th century onwards.

Öz: Batı Anadolu Hellenistik Dönem’de Hellen dünyasının en üretici bölgesidir. Kutsal alanlardaki yapıları bi­linçli olarak temenosun herhangi bir yerine konumlandırma ya da yönlendirme yoluyla perspektif görünüm kazandırma gayreti içerisinde oldukları belirgindir. Antikçağda Batı Anadolu kent planlama, kutsal alan plan­lama ve mimari planlama yönünden Güney İtalya, Sicilya ve Hellas’tan daha zengin ve gelişmiştir. Helle­nistik mimari özelliklerini MÖ II. yüzyılda göstermeye başlamıştır. Kutsal alan planlamasında seçilen yerin özel­liğine ve uygunluğuna göre değişik planlama teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Hellenistik planlamanın başarısı yal­nızca ızgara planının eğimli arazide başarılı biçimde uygulanmasında olmayıp kentin öğeleri arasındaki ilişkiler ile anıtsal­laş­tı­rıl­masında yatmaktadır. Hellenistik Dönem’de kutsal alanların ve kamu yapılarının eğimli arazi­nin bir dizi teras üzerinde yükselmesi ve birbirleriyle bağlantılı oldukları izlenimini vermesi ile görsel olarak ho­şa gidecek bir kentsel peyzaj oluşturma eğilimi ön plana çıkmaktadır. Batı Anadolu’da Geç Klasik Dö­nem’de skenogra­phia kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Hellenistik mimaride katı eksen ve simetri kuralları uygulan­masına karşın planlamada esnek yapıda eksen ve simetri kuralları ile skenographia kullanıldığı izlenmektedir. Hellenistik Dönem planlama ve mimarisinin etkileri Roma Erken İmparatorluk Dönemi’nde de devam etmiş­tir.

Abstract: Western Anatolia was the most architecturally prolific territory of the Hellenic world in the Hellen­istic period. It is noteworthy that the structures forming part of the sacred space were deliberately situated in the interior area of the temenos or they were constructed with the intent to provide a specific perspective through their temenos-angled façades. The Western Anatolia city planning in antiquity is both more prolific and advanced in both architectural terms and in the planning of sacred space than was the case in Southern Italy, Sicily and Hellas. This Hellenistic architecture began to show its characteristics in the IInd century B.C. Various techniques of design were employed dependent upon the characteristic of the chosen space. The success of Hellenistic design does not merely consist in the successful employment of a grid design on a sloping space. Rather it is in the majestic harmony of the all the elements of the city. The prominent feature of Hellenistic city planning is the intention to create a visually appreciated landscape architecture whereby sacred spaces and public structures seem to climb over an inclined space upon a series of terraces with in­tegrity and connectivity. In western Anatolia in the late classical period skenographia were used. Notwith­standing the fact that Hellenistic architecture is strict in terms of axis and symmetrical rules, flexible axis and design rules and skenographia were also employed in design. The influence of Hellenistic period design and architecture was maintained in the period of the early Roman Empire.

Abstract: This paper addresses the colouring of carved inscriptions in antiquity and of the importance of colouring in conveying meaning, context and content, through the seven colours of the Messenger Goddess Iris and her rainbow, preceding and distinct from, the later Messenger God Hermes in black and white. The ancient Greeks knew the sacred texts as coloured and of the associations to be made with particular colours. Surviving examples of coloured inscriptions from Anatolia and of the support (for colour) applied within the cuttings of an inscription are given, to draw attention to the use of colour, this because a sign/γραφή/graphē, conveys meaning through both its shape, and its colour, hence epigraphy is or rather should be concerned with both. It suggests that emphasis, recognition and rhetorical relationships were established through the use of certain colours and colour combinations that together formed an integral part of the reading of the text in Antiquity, in addition to colour’s importance for the finished appearance and legibility of the inscription. The colour of the signs forming inscriptions were renewed, and the loss of evidence of colouring, consequent upon cleaning the stone to take an ‘epigraphic’ cast or squeeze, has led to the erasure of meaning, evidence of colour removed to leave shadows on the stone.

Öz: Bu makale, antikçağda kazınmış yazıtların renklendirilmesini ve siyah-beyaz renklerdeki Haberci Tanrı Hermes’ten ayrışan öncülü Haberci Tanrıça İris ile onun gökkuşağının yedi rengi üzerinden anlam, bağlam ve içeriği karşıya iletmede renklendirmenin önemini ele almaktadır. Hellenler kutsal metinleri bunların renkli oluşlarından ve özellikle bazı renklerle yapılan birtakım ilişkilendirmelerden tanıyorlardı. Bu çalışmada, renk kullanımına dikkat çekmek amacıyla, Anadolu’dan, günümüze ulaşmış renkli yazıtlardan ve bir yazıtın kazıntıları arasında, kullanılmış boya kalıntılarından örnekler sunulmuştur. Çünkü bu hem şekil hem de renk aracılığıyla anlamı ileten bir işaret; diğer bir deyişle graphē’dir (γραφή); ve epigrafi hem şekil hem de renkle ilgilenmektedir – daha ziyade ilgilenmelidir. Bu durum gösteriyor ki, vurgulama, onaylama ve hitap ilişkileri birtakım renklerin ve renk kombinasyonlarının kullanımına dayandırılmaktadır. Yazıtın son hali ve okunabilir olması açısından boyanın önemli olmasının yanında, bu renkler ve kombinasyonlar, birlikte, antikçağda metin okumanın ayrılmaz bir parçasını oluşturmaktadırlar. Sunulan örnek yazıtları oluşturan işaretlerin renkleri yenilenmekteydi ve, bir epigrafik kalıp veya estampaj almak amacıyla taşın temizlenmesi sonucunda boya kalıntılarının yok olması iletilmek istenen anlamın, taşta gölgeler bırakmak üzere temizlenen renk kanıtlarının silinmesine neden olmuştur.

Öz: Bu makalede Antalya Müzesi tarafından yürütülen 2016 yılı Perge kazıları kapsamında Batı Nekropo­lisi’nden ele geçen üç Hellence mezar yazıtı tanıtılmaktadır. MS II. yüzyılın sonu ile MS III. yüzyı­lın başına tarihlenen yazıtların ilk ikisi lahit, üçüncüsü ise bir mezar odası üzerinde yer almaktadır. Söz konusu belge­ler önce­likli ola­rak mezarların uygunsuz kullanımı sonucunda tahsil edilecek olan ceza miktarları ile bu mik­tarla­rın öde­neceği kasalara ilişkin yapılacak olan çalışmalarda bir veri oluşturabilecek niteliktedir. Ayrı­ca yazıtlarda yer alan kişilerin hem kent hem de bölgede nadiren görülen ya da hiç karşılaşılmamış olan isim­leri ise ono­mas­tik çalışmalara katkı sunacaktır.

Abstract: This paper presents three Greek funeral inscriptions which were found in the Western Necropolis of Perge, in the course of research conducted by the Museum of Antalya in 2016. The first two of these in­scrip­tions, dated to between the end of the 2nd century and the beginning of the 3rd century A.D., are on a sar­cophagi, while the third is carved on a tomb chamber. These three inscriptions contribute to studies con­cerning the amount of the fine that is to be collected in case of any improper use made of these tombs; and the treasury to which this fine should be paid, as well as to onomastic studies, as the names of the indi­vidu­als recorded are unknown or rarely found in the wider region and were previously unrecorded in the city.

Öz: Makalede Antalya Müzesi Müdürlüğü’nün verdiği izinle 2014-2015 yıllarında yürütülen, kazılar ve yüzey araştırmaları dışında müzeye gelen eserler tanıtılmaktadır. Tümü adak steli olan bu eserler MS III. yüz­yıla tarihlendirilecek özellikler içermektedir. 1 ve 2 numaralı yazıtlar Dioskour kardeşlere; 3 ve 4 numa­ralı yazıtlar Atlı Tanrılar grubundan Kakasbos’a; 5 ve 6 numaralı yazıtlar Herakles’e; 7 numaralı yazıt yerel atlı tanrılardan biri olan Ordas/Ourdas’a; 8 numaralı yazıt Ulu Tanrılar/Megaloi Theoi’a; 9 numaralı yazıt Eleuthera Myrike’ye; 10 numaralı yazıt ise Adil Tanrılar/Theoi Dikaioi için adanmıştır. Ourdas/Ordas, Me­galoi Theoi, Eleuthera Myrike ve Theoi Dikaioi Antalya Bölgesi epigrafik belgelerinde sık karşılaşılmayan kült­lerdir. Eserlerin geliş yerleri bilinmediği için kültlerin yayılım alanları, adayan kişilerin taşıdığı isimler üzerinden buluntu yerlerine dair öneriler getirilmektedir. Atlı tanrılar, MS II. ve III. yüzyıllarda yerel tanrı ve Hellen tanrısının birlikte algılandığı synkretik özellikler içermektedirler. Makalede ayrıca, yazıtlarda geçen şahıs isimleri için de tamamlama önerileri getirilmektedir.

Abstract: This article presents ten new inscriptions from the Archaeological Museum of Antalya. All these inscriptions have been studied with the permission granted by the Directorate of the Museum in 2014-2015 and they are apart from those inscriptions which were found in the course of surveys and excava­tions in the Antalya Region. All of them are votive inscriptions and are dated to the IIIrd century A.D. Nos. 1-2 were dedicated to the Dioskouroi; Nos. 3-4 are dedicated to Kakasbos; Nos. 5-6 are votives to Herac­les; No. 7 was a votive to a local deity named Ordas/Ourdas; No. 8 was dedicated to the Great Gods (The­oi Megaloi); No. 9 is a votive to Eleuthera Myrike; the last is a dedication to the Righteous Gods (Theoi Dikaioi). The cults of Ourdas/Ordas/Ordis, Megaloi Theoi, Eleuthera Myrike and Theoi Dikaioi have been attested very rarely in the epigraphic record of the Antalya Region. As the provenance of these inscripti­ons is unknown, the date has been suggested by the author based upon the dedicator’s names and their spread. The Anatolian rider gods carried syncretic features from both the local deities and the Greek deities which were thereby comprehended as combined together in the IInd and IIIrd centuries A.D.

Öz: Berlin Devlet Müzeleri’nde muhafaza edilen ve sol dirseğiyle arkaizan bir kore’ye dayanan bir Aphro¬dite heykeli 150 yıldan beri arkeologlar tarafından bilinmektedir. Bunca zamandır bu eserin ne ifade ettiği hakkında çokça yorum da yapılmıştır. Genel anlamda bilim dünyası burada işlenen temanın epiphaneia olduğunda hemfikirdir. Ama kore’nin kimi/neyi temsil ettiği konusu hala tartışmalıdır. Geçtiğimiz yıllarda yayınlanan geniş kapsamlı bir çalışma tam da bu konuya adanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın yazarı, bu eser hakkın-daki eski bir tezi, yani kore’nin Aphrodite’nin arkaik bir kült heykelini temsil ettiği tezini, bir takım yeni ar-gümanla canlandırmayı denemektedir. Aşağıdaki makalede önce söz konusu bu tezin açmazları kısaca ele alınacaktır. Arkasından da, birçok arkeoloğun hali hazırda yapmış olduğu epifani-önerisine küçük bir kat¬kı-da bulunulmaya çalışılacaktır.

Abstract: The Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin has a statue of Aphrodite that has been known to archaeolo¬gist for over 150 years. The figure is supported by her left elbow resting on an archaistic kore. To date there have been many different approaches to the interpretation of this work. In general, scholars agree that the theme of this composition is the epiphany of the goddess Aphrodite. Controversial is what the kore symbolizes. Recently, a comprehensive study was published on this issue. The author of that work attempted to revitalize with new arguments an old thesis concerning the statue in Berlin. This proposition says that the kore presents an archaic cult statue of Aphrodite. In the following paper the problems presented by this thesis are briefly treated. Then, through a small contribution the idea of the epiphany is supported.

Öz: Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Akdeniz Uygarlıkları Araştırma Enstitüsü tarafından sürdürülmekte olan T.C. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı, Phaselis ve Teritoryumu Yüzey Araştırması, başlıklı proje kapsamında yürütülen araştırmalar, kent ve hinterlandındaki biyolojik çeşitliliğin tespit edilmesini de içermektedir. Bu kapsamda Phaselis periferisindeki kıyısal alan genelinde gerçekleştirilen denizel biyo-çeşitlilik odaklı çalışmalarda Akdeniz ekosistemine sonradan dâhil olan Kızıldeniz kökenli bazı bentik türler tespit edilmiştir.
Phaselis’in yeni konukları olan bu bentik türler Diadema setosum, Synaptula reciprocans, Cassiopea andro-meda, Portunus pelagicus, Matuta victor, Ixa monodi, Coleusia signata, Atergatis roseus, Percnon gibbesi, Charybdis helleri, Charybdis longicollis, Erugosquilla massavensis, Melicertus hathor, Penaeus japonicus, Metapenaeus monoceros, Metapenaeopsis aegyptia, Sicyonia lancifer’dir.

Abstract: The research undertaken within the Project: The Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, The Survey of Phaselis and its Territorium, conducted by the Mediterranean Civilizations Research Institute, Akdeniz University, includes determining the biological diversity within the city and in its hinterland. In this context, within the marine biodiversity research conducted within the territorial waters around the ancient city of Phaselis, some bentic lessepsian species have been identified.
The following benthic species are newly arrived guests of Phaselis; Diadema setosum, Synaptula reciprocans, Cassiopea andromeda, Portunu spelagicus, Matuta victor, Ixa monodi, Coleusia signata, Atergatis roseus, Percnon gibbesi, Charybdis helleri, Charybdis longicollis, Erugosquilla massavensis, Melicertus hathor, Penaeus japonicus, Metapenaeus monoceros, Metapenaeopsis aegyptia, Sicyonia lancifer.

Öz: Selçuklu fethi öncesi Roma ve Doğu Roma İmparatorluğu dönemlerinde Korakesion ve Kalon Oros olarak anılan Alanya, daha çok korsanlık faaliyetleriyle ünlü bir şehirdi. 1221 yılında kent, Alâeddin Keyku-bad tarafından teslim alındıktan sonra fatihinin adına hitaben Alâ’iyye adını aldı. Fetihten sonra yapılan tersanesi ve güçlendirilen kalesi ile geçmişine nazaran önemli bir ticaret kenti olarak öne çıktı. Kentin gelişiminde önemli ticari yolların Doğu Akdeniz’e kayması da etkiliydi.
Zenginliğin Akdeniz limanlarına ulaşması Mısır, Anadolu ve Avrupa arasında ilişkileri yoğunlaştırdı. Bu dönemde Alanya hem Doğu hem de Batılı tüccarlar tarafından uğrak bir liman oldu. Bu limanda hangi ürünlerin alınıp satıldığı ise bu makalenin konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Bununla birlikte şehre tüccarları ulaştıran kara ve deniz yolları da ele alınmıştır.

Abstract: Alanya which was called Coracesium and Kalon Oros during the Roman and Eastern Roman Empire periods was mostly known for piracy before its conquest by the Seljuks. Following its conquest by Alâeddin Keykubad in 1221, it was renamed Alâ’iyye to commemorate the name of its conqueror. Com-pared to its past history it became an important trade centre, with the tershane (shipyard) constructed after the conquest and its castle remodelled. The shift of significant trade routes to the Eastern Mediter-ranean had an effect upon the economic development of the city.
When abundance reaching the Mediterranean coasts, trade relations multiplied between Egypt, Anatolia and Europe and, during this period, the port of Alanya became a destination which was frequented by both eastern and western merchants. The subject of this article concerns those products which were traded through this port, together with an examination of the land and sea routes that enabled this trade.
