Öz: Kappadokia Bölgesi sınırları içinde bulunan Komana Tapınak Devleti tanrıça Ma’ya adanmış en önemli kült merkezidir. Antikçağ yazarlarından edinilen bilgiye göre tanrıçaya kültsel gücünden dolayı çok büyük bir saygı duyulmaktaydı. Strabon Pontos Komana’sındaki kült merkezinde tapınak köleleri ve tanrıçanın takipçilerinin yaşadığını; köleler, kadın ve erkeklerden oluşan bu topluluğun sayısının 6000’den fazla olduğunu bildirmektedir. Günümüzde birçok araştırmacı tanrıça Ma’nın Anadolu ana tanrıçasının farklı bir versiyonu olduğunu ileri sürmektedir. Bunun asıl nedeni Ma kelimesinin birçok dilin doğal halinde “anne”, ya da “ana“ anlamında kullanılmasındandır. Fakat bir taraftan Antikçağ yazarlarının bildirdikleri, diğer taraftan ele geçen yazılı bilgiler ile görsel kaynaklardan Ma’nın Anadolu ana tanrıçası ile birçok farklı özelliklerinin olduğu ve köken olarak Hurri-Mitanni tanrıçası Šawuška’ya dayanmış olabileceği hipotezi de ileri sürülebilir.

Abstract: The temple state of Comana in Cappadocia was the most important religious center for the goddess Ma in the ancient world. According to the reports of ancient authors, the proprietor of the temple state, due to her mighty power, was greeted with much respect throughout the ancient world. Strabo relates how in his time the city population consisted entirely of worshippers and temple slaves, and their number exceeded 6000. Today, most researchers assume that the goddess Ma was one expression of the Anatolian Mother-Goddess. Her name resembling the babbling sound for “mother” in many languages. However, based upon the information provided in ancient accounts, it seems the goddess Ma might be better understood to be the representation of the Hurrian-Mitanni goddess Šawuška, rather more than the later representation of the Anatolian Mother-Goddess.
